My most reliable employees don't sleep, and they still ask permission

How I got hired as COO through Upwork, then replaced daily manual checks at an e-commerce studio with AI agents that report to me before breakfast.

Trial to permanent COO

Agents in the plan

Every morning at 10:30, before I’ve finished my coffee, an agent has already checked every store we run. Is the site up? Does the product page still promise delivery times we can actually hit? Is there a discount code in an email that doesn’t exist anymore? Its report is waiting for me.

How I got here

A founder found me on Upwork. One interview, a two-week paid trial, a flight to Paris to meet in person. The trial became a permanent COO role at 639HZ, an AI-native studio that builds e-commerce brands for the US and Australia.

The rule I brought with me

If a human checks it every day, an agent should check it instead. Humans should decide, not patrol.

What the agents do

  • Write the blog. It finds what customers are searching for, refuses to write a topic twice, runs its own quality checks, and publishes to Shopify only after approval.
  • Watch the stores. The Morning Ops Sentinel checks uptime, broken promises and stale content daily.
  • Keep the emails honest. Welcome flows and campaigns, plus a clean-up of old templates that promised things we couldn’t back up.
  • Audit the truth. They compare what product pages claim with what actually ships.
  • Scout new markets. They research new stores and countries with real keyword data, not vibes.

Why nothing goes rogue

Read-only by default. A kill switch. And one sequence for anything that changes the business: propose, show a sample, get a written yes, then execute. The agents are fast. The approval step is what makes them safe to trust.
